Experience the vibrant and legendary Lathmar Holi in Barsana and Nandgaon, a unique celebration filled with colors, tradition, and devotion. This special Holi tour covers Mathura, Vrindavan, Barsana, and Nandgaon, offering a culturally rich and spiritually uplifting experience. Witness the famous Phoolon Ki Holi, Widow’s Holi, and the epic Lathmar Holi, bringing the mythological tales of Radha and Krishna to life.
Upon arrival in Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, our tour begins with a visit to the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple, where you can seek divine blessings. We then explore the Dwarkadhish Temple, known for its grand Holi celebrations. Later, we drive to Vrindavan, the town where Krishna spent his childhood. Here, we witness the Phoolon Ki Holi (Flower Holi) at Banke Bihari Temple, a mesmerizing experience where petals rain down on devotees in a spiritual festivity. Another unique event is Widow’s Holi at Gopinath Temple, where thousands of widows break societal norms by playing Holi with colors, making it a moving and joyous spectacle. As the evening approaches, we soak in the divine ambiance of ISKCON Temple, where Holi is celebrated with chants and devotional dances. Finally, we visit the grand Prem Mandir, a marvel illuminated beautifully in the evening, before retiring to our hotel in Mathura or Vrindavan for a peaceful overnight stay.
After an early breakfast, we embark on a journey to Barsana, the village of Radha, where the legendary Lathmar Holi takes place. This traditional festivity re-enacts an age-old story where men from Krishna’s village, Nandgaon, visit Barsana and are greeted by women wielding sticks (lathis). The event unfolds in Rangili Gali, where the air is filled with vibrant hues of gulal (colored powder) and traditional Holi songs echo through the village. We also visit the famous Radha Rani Temple, the only temple dedicated solely to Radha, before enjoying a local feast of Makhan Mishri, Thandai, and Gujiyas. The colorful streets of Barsana are alive with cultural performances, making this an unmissable Holi experience. By evening, we visit Shri Ji Mandir, another sacred site associated with Radha-Krishna, before returning to Mathura for a relaxed evening at the hotel.
On the final day, after breakfast, we head to Nandgaon, Krishna’s village, where the Holi celebrations continue with a fascinating twist. Here, men from Barsana visit Nandgaon to play Holi, and the village transforms into a vibrant festival of colors, dance, and music. We explore Nand Bhavan, the childhood home of Krishna, and participate in the grand Holi festivities, where bhajans (devotional songs) and traditional dances bring the mythological stories to life. The celebrations here are an extraordinary sight, with thousands of people draped in colors, chanting Krishna’s name. After indulging in delicious local food, we return to Mathura. If time permits, we stop by Vishram Ghat for a tranquil Yamuna Aarti, concluding our Holi adventure. Finally, we drop you at the Mathura Railway Station or Airport, ensuring you leave with cherished memories of this once-in-a-lifetime Holi experience.
